For Rescue Centres

Did you know

At least 85-90% of the rabbit’s diet should consist of hay, grass and dried grass, as a guideline as much as the size of the rabbit’s body! They also need a small amount of nuggets – 20-25g per kg ideal bodyweight is all that is needed. You also need to make sure they have some green leafy salad as part of their diet and water should always be made available.

For Rescue Centres

Thank you for supporting Rabbit Awareness Week.

In this section you will find resources to help promote RAW and make this campaign the best one yet!

This year’s campaign sets to increase awareness about the importance of feeding hay and encouraging rabbit owners to choose the right type of hay for their rabbits. As a rescue centre please ensure that all of the rabbits are neutered/spayed and vaccinated before going to new home, and appropriate advice is given on nutrition.

The 2017 RAW campaign is enlisting the help of veterinary practices, pet retailers and schools to create awareness. We advise you start planning now and advertising your activities now – so that you and your local community know well in advance what you are doing for RAW.

PR Toolkit

Working with the local press is one of the best ways of helping to spread the RAW message and with what we are trying to achieve with this year’s theme. Your main tool for working with the media is the press release, but before getting on with that you will need to consider what kind of events you would like to hold in your practice:

Sending Your Press Release

The best way to get your press release noticed is email it to the news desk or call them, if you have a good relationship with the reporters speak to them directly. It’s best to send your release to a newspaper a week in advance of when you want it to appear, keep in mind the newspaper’s deadlines, if you want a photographer at the event then you need to give it at least two weeks’ notice.
